Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:
- After Tuesday's mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, 85 miles from San Antonio, people would now like to know how to help. One way is to donate blood at the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center (STBTC). For locations, visit their website or schedule HERE. You can also donate at University Hospital by scheduling online or calling 210-358-2812. Another way is to donate to official funds set up to help families of the victims, but please "be careful when sending money to any cause" due to scams. Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales and San Antonio Area Foundation are also establishing "two funds that would turn over 100 percent of the proceeds to families directly impacted by the shooting or provide long-term assistance to the Uvalde community." To donate click HERE. H-E-B customers can also donate to the "Spirit of Giving Fund... in-store at the register for $1, $3, $5, $50, or $100 or at checkout for curbside and home delivery orders" or at heb.com/donate. (ksat.com)
- The Texas Department of Public Safety (Texas DPS) is asking the community for help regarding the Uvalde shooting tragedy at Robb Elementary on Tuesday, May 24. Texas DPS officials ask that if any individuals "have any information about the shooting," to please report it on iWatchTexas or by calling 512-424-7981. For more visit: (news4sanantonio.com)
- Yesterday, May 25, was the first day for readers to participate in the "final voting" event for "Current's annual Best of San Antonio Readers' Choice awards." Local readers get "to select their favorite businesses, people, places and things to do in the Alamo City" from five sections, including "Food & Drink, People, Shopping, Around Town and Nightlife." From now until Sunday, June 26, individuals "can vote for their favorites once daily" at "the Best of San Antonio website." Winners will be announced on Wednesday, July 27, "in the San Antonio Current's Best of San Antonio issue." (San Antonio Current)
- The annual Pop Madness convention hosted by the San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) "is back in person" again! This year's pop culture event will take place on Saturday, May 28 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Igo Branch Library, located at 13330 Kyle Seale Parkway. The "event will feature authors, artists, anime, crafts, cosplay and more." For more details visit the San Antonio main library's website and go to: (mysapl.org)
- "The Power of Poison" which opened last week at The Witte Museum at 3801 Broadway is, according to The New York Times, an "elaborate… alluring… theatrical exhibition." The exhibit allows visitors to walk "through a re-creation of a remote Columbian rainforest" and learn about "the role of poison in nature, literature, history and human health," as well as "explore the role of poison in familiar stories such as Snow White, Macbeth, and Alice in Wonderland" and much more! Click HERE for tickets and for ticket information, visit their website or call 210-357-1910. For more event details please visit: (The Witte Museum)
