Jesse Borrego + Cha Cha's New Gen + Miss SA CBS + The Light Park

Welcome to the San Antonio Daily, your source for the latest on what's going down in town.

Morning, neighbors! It's me again, Gabriela Couvillion, your host of the San Antonio Daily.

First, today's weather:

Sunny and breezy. High: 85 Low: 49.

Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:

  1. On Thursday, Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m., actor Jesse Borrego will give a talk on cultural identity at Our Lady of the Lake University. Originally from San Antonio, he grew up on the South Side and graduated in 1980 from Harlandale High School. His talk titled "Bridging the Cultural Uncanny Valley: Image and Story in the 21st Century" will touch on the "potential empowerment of the cultural narrative in our digital information age." He will explain "how cultural identity and image relate to society at large and the trillion-dollar entertainment industry." (San Antonio Current)
  2. San Antonio Cha-Cha's Restaurant at 6417 Evers Road is open again, but now it's called Cha-Cha's New Gen Café, and features a large variety of vegetarian-friendly dishes, besides its popular Tex-Mex eats. Owner Bania Ruiz, who graduated from Austin's Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, said "people want to start eating healthier now, so I am putting a lot of energy into that to make us a little bit different." Enjoy an original favorite like caldo, fajitas, chalupas or enchiladas; or have a meatless burger and chicken, or a "smoothies on steroids" beverage which includes "organic ingredients such as mushroom powders, fruit, cocoa nibs, hemp powder and wheat grass." Whatever you choose from the menu, enjoy and "buen provecho" (bon appetit) to you! (San Antonio Current)
  3. A familiar face is coming to CBS soon! Former Miss San Antonio Alanna Sarabia is excited to be the new evening traffic anchor for KENS 5. She will be part of the noon, 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts starting Monday, Nov. 15. Sarabia, who graduated from Texas State in 2011, is very active in the community, and was also elected Miss San Antonio in 2009. Another exciting thing on her agenda is that in a few weeks, she will be marrying her best friend. (mySA)
  4. The Light Park is coming to San Antonio on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at Selma's Retama Parkway. The holiday drive-thru light show will feature "more than 1 million LED lights throughout its one-mile light show and musical experience" and "includes a light show synchronized to a festive mix of Christmas music played on a dedicated station." Pre-purchased tickets per vehicle are $35 "and admission varies per show time (weekdays and weekends) and runs nightly from 5:30 to 10 p.m." until January 2, 2022. (Laredo Morning Times)
