Hello there, San Antonio. I'm here in your inbox today to get you up to speed on everything you need to know about what's going on around town.

First, today's weather:

Some rain and a thunderstorm. High: 80 Low: 59.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in San Antonio who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our San Antonio Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:

  1. Last week San Antonio College (SAC) announced that actor Jesse Borrego, originally from San Antonio, will be joining SAC's radio/television/broadcasting program advisory committee. Borrego said, "My career has taught me many lessons and skill sets that can be shared in a creative educational environment that can bridge many challenges to the success of our students' future in their chosen field." According to Program Coordinator Markene Bennett, enrollment for "film-related courses" has increased at Alamo Colleges, and although they "were mainly held at Northwest Vista College," SAC opened "its own film program" due to the demand. 2. June is Pride Month and to celebrate, San Antonio, in sponsorship with Bud Light, is hosting the "first-annual Pride River Parade" on Saturday, June 18. "The free event promotes the city's inclusion, encouragement, and support of the LGBTQ+ community to live openly with equal rights." Marc Anderson, president and CEO of Visit San Antonio, said, "San Antonio truly is a unique city thanks in large part to our welcoming and inclusive community." He added, "The city already boasts fantastic Pride Month celebrations in June, and we hope this Pride River Parade addition to the festivities will showcase the huge heart of the community in as many forms possible." 3. After 3 years, Playland Pizza, located at 400 E. Houston St., will be closing on Monday, June 30. Owner Stefan Bowers shared the news on social media, where he said that he received "an offer to move" from the locale, but he didn't give any other details. However, he did communicate through social media that this fall, "he will be opening a restaurant and market at the 1221 Broadway Lofts" in town. For more details visit: (culturemap.com)
  4. Recently the community received a warning "of the rise of the highly contagious and deadly virus, parvovirus, increasing across Texas shelters." The virus "spreads through direct contact with an infected dog or by indirect contact with a contaminated object." Symptoms include "vomiting, diarrhea (with a distinct metallic smell), lethargy, and loss of appetite." According to City of San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS), "the strongest defense is to ensure all dogs are protected with vaccinations. Unvaccinated pets should also not be placed on public floors or even walked in outdoor spaces." For more contact Animal Care Services and visit: (mySA)
  5. Soon a second pOpshelf "discount home goods" store will be opening in San Antonio. The "Dollar Store-owned" chain store will offer "seasonal and home décor, health and beauty products, home cleaning supplies and party goods" for $5 and under. Construction of the store, which will be located at The Rim at 17822 La Cantera Parkway in Suite 114, "will start in July" and should be finished by September.
