The latest from San Antonio, delivered straight to your inbox.
Morning, neighbors! It's me again, Gabriela Couvillion, your host of the San Antonio Daily.
First, today's weather:
Sunny, cooler and less humid. High: 77 Low: 46.
Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- The weekend is finally here and it's almost Halloween! What a perfect time for a chilling cocktail experience at Rock Star Festivals' Be Afraid of the Dark pop-up series, "a 4-part interactive cocktail journey where chilling and dark tales of San Antonio ghosts will be told!" The event will be held at Lambermont Castle, located at 950 East Grayson St., which is considered to be "one of the area's most haunted locations" in town. Prepare for a bone chilling experience this weekend at the Haunted Tavern event, and spooky cheers to you! (KSAT San Antonio)
- One of San Antonio's most treasured and beloved places, the Japanese Tea Garden, can now also be appreciated through an app called the "Japanese Tea Garden Interactive Augmented Reality App." The app features "Kokoro, a colorful dragon that virtually takes flight at the garden's Dragon Bridge" and "offers six augmented reality experiences, which are pinned to different spots around the grounds." The interactive app, which was developed as a COVID-19 project by Geomedia Inc. and the San Antonio Parks Foundation, debuted on Oct. 8 and can now be downloaded on the Apple App and Google Play stores. For more details on the app and to read more on the history of the beautiful Japanese Tea Garden, visit: (culturemap.com)
- "Nuestra cultura para todos" (Our culture for everyone), is the motto of The Association of Puerto Ricans in San Antonio, a nonprofit group founded in 2009 by Cesar Del Valle, whose "goal is to share their culture through the arts and food." Daniel Aponte and Carlos Ramos, both Puerto Rican and U.S. Army vets, are now helping carry on the association's objective of sharing the Puerto Rican culture, foods and traditions with people of their generation, and for the newer generations of their culture. Puerto Rico may be far away, but "you won't have to go far to get a little taste of La Isla del Encanto or The Island of Enchantment." Each year the they host several events, like the Latin Roots Music and Food Fest, where you can savor delicious Puerto Rican flavors right here in town. "The proceeds from their cultural events go to fund scholarships for those of Puerto Rican heritage and persons with special needs." For more details, visit: (KSAT San Antonio)
- Now that autumn is here and the weather is getting cooler, it's the ideal time to experience the Fall Leaves, and there are various Texas State Parks where you can do just that. At Lost Maples State Natural Area you can see the leaves turn of the beautiful bigtooth maple trees. At Pedernales Fall State Park, you can go for a bike ride or hike down 40+ miles of trails. At Garner State Park, you can spend the night in a cabin or camp out under the stars. For more details and parks reservation information, visit: (San Antonio Magazine)
