Good morning, San Antonio! Here's everything you need to know to get this Wednesday started off right.
First, today's weather:
Humid and partly cloudy throughout the day. High: 92 Low: 74.
Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- Meet at the Alamo on Saturday, Oct. 2 at noon to learn about the "history of Mission San Antonio de Valero." The discussion will focus on its "founding through the end of the Mission Period in 1793." The guided walking tour will be led by Ernesto Rodriguez, Alamo senior curator. Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by participating in this "one-time only tour!" (Subscription: Wilson County News)
- Earlier this year, Forbes named San Antonio "one of the top 25 U.S. cities for retirees." The designation was backed up by several other organizations. With so much to see and enjoy in the Alamo City, it's no surprise that it made the list! When you start thinking of where you want to spend your golden years, consider San Antonio, "a hot spot for retirement." (culturemap.com)
- Beginning Friday, Oct. 1, the San Antonio Public Library will "make life a little softer — a little more forgiving." They will no longer charge overdue fines for late returns of books and media materials." The landmark decision comes with the adoption of the Fiscal Year 2022 budget by City Council and is intended "to break down financial barriers that deter people from accessing library resources." Ramiro S. Salazar, San Antonio Public Library Director, says that the "SAPL has made great strides over the years in making library services increasingly accessible for San Antonians." Paul Stahl, Chair of the SAPL Board of Trustees, states that "libraries are for everyone" and that they shouldn't fear visiting the library because they're worried about owing money if their books are late. He, along with the Library Board of Trustees, thanks the "City Council and the City Manager's Office for their support and stewardship of this important initiative." (mySA)
- Cool fall Texas weather and a nice, cold "locally brewed beer!" What a perfect combination! Yelp put together a list of their favorite breweries and taprooms in San Antonio and surrounding areas. This fall, plan to visit 16 local Must-Visit Breweries and Taprooms, and cheers to you! For a complete list, visit: (San Antonio Current)
- "Meet the Prince impersonator taking San Antonio by storm" under the "Purple Rain!" Chances are you've seen him starring in San Antonio street corner concerts, in sequined outfits, and fog machines. Dimitri Reeves, originally from Baltimore, resembles Prince so much you'd think he was the real one! You may not see him riding a "Little Red Corvette," but you can see him perform on the Eastside, at WW White Road and Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, and around downtown San Antonio. (mySanAntonio.com)
