Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- The H-E-B grocery store that opened up in New Braunfels on Friday, April 29 is the first one to have a two-story "True Texas BBQ" restaurant and "Home by H-E-B" department.
"The new 122,000-square-foot store" is located at 651 South Walnut Ave., "next to the site of the former H-E-B" on the same street. The venue's BBQ eatery features "indoor seating on both levels" and serves "the best barbecue," according to Texas Monthly, which "named H-E-B's True Texas BBQ brand the best barbecue chain in the state." The "Home by H-E-B" department offers "Haven + Key" and "Texas Proud" brand items for the home, such as "home textiles, pieces of décor, furniture, accent pieces, and other items." Julie Bedingfield, H-E-B's public affairs manager, said, "With an enhanced in-store experience and commitment to top-quality service and selection, this new store is tailored to serve the needs of this growing community and provide our customers with the best we have to offer." The new location is open every day of the week from 6 a.m.-11 p.m. For more information visit: (culturemap.com) - "When Mona Patel was 17, "a drunk driver changed the trajectory of her life forever." At that time, she was a student at California Poly Tech and one day when "she was walking on campus," she was hit by the drunk driver causing her "lower leg and foot" to be smashed. Despite many surgeries, she eventually had to have her leg "amputated below the knee" and although she looked for support groups, unfortunately she didn't find any. At that moment she "vowed that she would be the one to help others facing life after losing a limb." Twenty-five years later, she is still keeping that promise through the San Antonio Amputee Foundation, which she founded. "As a licensed clinical social worker, she meets one-on-one before an amputation and after to show patients what their future can be." She recently "told three new amputees that you have to remember that your spirit, your love, your heart did not live in that foot or that leg that was amputated." She said, "It's in here," as she pointed to her heart.
"Patel's next goal is to hike the highest peak in every state" and she's getting closer and closer to her goal, as she has already "reached the top of 14 mountains." For more information on Patel and her nonprofit, as well as a video on her story, please visit: (KSAT San Antonio) - This year, Evo Entertainment Group will be opening a new film entertainment location inside South Park Mall, located at 2310 SW Military Drive. The new theater will feature "12 movie screens, dine-in cinema service, a video arcade, bowling alley, virtual reality experiences and bumper cars." Scheduled to open in December 2022, the new venue will "bring 175 jobs" to San Antonio. To apply CLICK HERE and for more information visit: (FOX 29)
