Find out everything worth knowing in town today with the San Antonio Daily.
Hello, people of San Antonio! Gabriela Couvillion here with your Thursday issue of the San Antonio Daily.
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny. High: 87 Low: 65.
Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- Special Leaf Tea "is not your traditional Texas tea. We do ready-to-drink, bottled, local olive leaf ice tea," said founder and owner, Chris Cook. He created the unique brew "while working as a chef on an olive orchard." Now 7 years later, tea lovers can enjoy the unique taste of Special Leaf Tea, which is similar to green tea and has many health benefits. "Four varieties of tea are now served and sold in 30 locations around San Antonio." Once you try Special Leaf Tea, it's likely to become "your cup of tea." (KENS5.com)
- "Grab your 'Coffee' and Dosey-Doe" at Bright Coffee, a swing dance and espresso venue set to be open in December 2021 or January 2022. Hana Buck and Rolando Almaraz, "engaged to be married in spring 2022," met while dancing the Lindy Hop. In 2019 "they developed Puro-Swing, a laid back dance project hosting swing pop-ups everywhere from the Hays Street Bridge to Shotgun House Coffee Roasters." During that time, an idea for a dance and coffee shop began to brew, and now "their new joint venture is currently underway at 1705 Blanco Road along the Blanco antiques corridor." Once open, Bright Coffee "will function as a coffee shop by day and an event space — for classes and swing sessions — by night." (mySA)
- As COVID-19 cases drop in San Antonio, city officials say that it's safe to trick-or-treat this year, but with precautions. Metro Health Director Claude Jacob said that "Halloween is not canceled," but encourages trick-or-treaters "to wear appropriate face coverings and trick-or-treat in smaller groups of those living in the same household" and adds that "traditional Halloween masks do not count" as appropriate face coverings. Happy and safe Halloween to all! (Laredo Morning Times)
- The San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA) is screening Hotel Imperial, featuring Pola Negri, a silent and golden film Polish actress "who retired in San Antonio in 1957" and left most of her estate to St. Mary's University when she died in 1987 at age 90. The free screening will take place outdoor in SAMA's West Courtyard, weather permitting, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22. The museum, located at 200 W. Jones Ave. is also exhibiting a 1924 portrait of Negri, which was painted by artist Tadé Styka and is a part of the museum's permanent collection. (San Antonio Current)
- This year San Antonio's massive Día de los Muertos event returns "after the in-person festivities were canceled last year due to COVID-19." This year's event will feature "a record-setting 60 altars commemorating loved ones" on "E Nueva Street, the main walkway cutting through the park." Visitors will also get to enjoy music music from over 40 performers, including "National Medal of Arts Recipient Santiago Jimenez and NEA National Heritage Fellow and 2022 Texas State Musician Eva Ybarra." Enjoy the festivities this Saturday, Oct. 23 and Sunday, Oct. 24 and "Feliz Dia de los Muertos!" (mySA)
