Operation FINALLY HOME Presents Wounded Soldier With New Home

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Operation FINALLY HOME along with Lennar and Southstar Communities U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Jose Sierra, Jr., and his family with a custom-built, mortgage-free home in San Antonio.

The surprise happened Monday during a special groundbreaking ceremony at the homesite in Mission Del Lago (947 Hagen Way, San Antonio, 78221).

Jose and his wife, Maria, thought they are just going through the preliminary interview process with Operation FINALLY HOME and the builder.

Instead they were met with an escort from the Patriot Guard riders and greeted at the site of their new home.

Sierra joined the Army after graduating from John F. Kennedy High School in San Antonio, Texas, and served 21 years active duty.

During his career, he served four combat tours, including Bosnia (1996), Kuwait (1999), and then Iraq in 2003 and 2007.

Jose was wounded during his combat tours in Iraq when his tank ran over an Improvised Explosive Device while on patrol.

Sierra was ejected from his seat and knocked unconscious.

Because he was able to walk and talk after the explosion, Jose resumed his mission with another crew and tank.

However, when he returned to his home station in Fort Hood, he began to notice changes and realized he needed medical attention.

Sierra was diagnosed with PTSD and TBI in addition to suffering with neck, back and wrist pain.

Jose and his wife, Maria, went to high school together and married in 2012. They currently live in San Antonio and between them, they have six children and five grandchildren. Maria is Jose’s caregiver.

Jose spends time focusing on his hobbies, including woodwork projects or working on his ’58 Chevy truck.
