The quickest way to get caught up on everything worth knowing around town today.
Hey, neighbors! Gabriela Couvillion here with your brand-new copy of the San Antonio Daily.
First, today's weather:
Sunny and very warm. High: 91 Low: 64.
Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- The Pearl partners and the San Antonio Street Art Initiative (SASAI) are collaborating on a new mural project that will feature the work of five San Antonio street artists. The artists participating are Vega, Eva Marengo Sanchez, Matt Tumlinson, Nik Soupè and SCOTCH. The group will create "a mural that references the community as well as the Pearl's storied presence in San Antonio." The purpose is "to beautify the underpass between Broadway and Avenue A" and "create a transformational space between Broadway and the heart of Pearl." The project has already begun and is set for completion in early November. (MySA.com)
- Barbacoa, tortillas and Big Red, Oh My! Country music band Flatland Cavalry wanted to get barbacoa tacos and Big Red before their Friday performance at Floore's Country Store, so they asked San Antonio for their barbacoa recommendations. The San Antonio community, being the experts on good barbacoa, happily offered their suggestions. Some of the favorites were "Del Rio Tortilla Factory, Celorio, Papi's Barbacoa, Tommy's, Benny's Tacos, Taqueria La Tapatia, Rocky's Taco House, and Garcia's." For some delicious barbacoa and Big Red, venture out to either of these great eateries in town. Who knows, you might bump into the Flatland Cavalry members before their next big show! - Some of you may already know what your kids are going to be for Halloween, but do you know what the local trick-or-treat customs are here in San Antonio? Many San Antonio newcomers have been asking "What day and time is trick-or-treating?" Although those born and reared here may consider that question a bit strange, it's actually a legitimate one, because there actually are certain rules in some other towns. In San Antonio, younger kids start trick-or-treating early, around 4:30 or 5 p.m., while older ones wait until 7 p.m. or later, and usually it ends around 9 or 10 p.m. Traditionally houses with porch lights on have treats, while those with no lights have none. "Of course, some neighborhoods and communities have additional trick-or-treating throughout the month of October, but these guidelines are fairly universal for the San Antonio area on Halloween night." So now that your questions have been answered, it's time to get ready for a Happy Halloween! (KSAT San Antonio)
- Not sure what to do on Friday night? How about "An Evening With Mykal Kilgore & Jamison Ross?" Mykal Kilgore, the Grammy nominated R&B artist, will perform at San Antonio's Jo Long Theatre Carver Community Cultural Center at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8. There's no better way to end the week than with great music on a Friday night! For ticket information, visit: (KENS5.com)
- Who's ready for some Hot Rods and Harleys? The Show and Shine event, presented by Caliente Harley Davidson, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 7230 N.W. Loop 410. Registration will be at 9 a.m. and the judging will start at 2 p.m. "All makes and models are welcome," but please do not bring large trailers or car haulers, as there is no space. Besides the car show, there will be live music, food trucks and fun contests. The cost of admission is $20. Proceeds go to local charity. To purchase tickets, visit: (Events in SA)
