- According to San Antonio Heron, "Weston Urban, a development company behind multiple high-profile downtown projects, wants to buy land near the northern end of San Pedro Creek... to build a minor-league baseball stadium." The exact location of the land, owned by Artpace San Antonio and the Toomey Family Limited Partnership, is "south of SAISD headquarters and stretches along the southern half of the block bounded by Kingsbury, Camaron, West Martin and North Flores streets." Bernard Toomey, member of the land-holding partnership, said that "Weston Urban contacted his father, John Toomey, about buying the land for a 'triple-A team.'" However, he said, "the partnership isn't looking to sell." (sacurrent.com)
- On Friday, July 8, a man in his 80s "shot and killed" his wife, a patient in her 80s at San Antonio's Methodist Hospital, and then he shot himself. Jennifer Rodriguez from the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) said, "This appears to be an unfortunate isolated incident involving a husband and a wife. Very tragic situation. This was not an active shooter situation and police do not believe anyone else was in danger." As of now, police do not know why the husband killed his wife and committed suicide, nor could they "share details on how long the woman had been a patient at the hospital," however, the SAPD homicide unit continues to investigate. - "We're on bloom watch at the San Antonio Zoo! This is a Corpse Flower. It has this name because the flower smells of rotting flesh! Besides being super stinky, the blooms average 6-8 feet tall, but can grow as tall as 10 feet. This plant will soon be on display in the zoo." (San Antonio Zoo via Facebook)
- "The air conditioning in the back part of the Petco Love Adoption Center is not cooling properly. They're moving their four dogs out as it is very uncomfortable for them. Please open your homes to one of these precious pups! If you can foster one of them temporarily, or if you have any questions, please email foster@sanantoniopetsalive.org."
