SA Muertos Fest + Sound Scream SA + Vegan Food + 40 Years of SAMA

Here's the latest on what's happening in San Antonio, delivered right to your inbox.

Happy Monday, people of San Antonio! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening today.

First, today's weather:

Very warm and humid. High: 93 Low: 71.

Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:

  1. San Antonio's downtown Hemisfair was filled with crowds this past weekend, October 23-24, at the 9th annual Muertos Fest. One of the largest "Dia de los Muertos" (Day of the Dead) celebrations in town, the event featured music, food and drinks. There were also artisan vendors and a fashion show. If you missed it this year and would like to see a slide show of the event, visit: (San Antonio Current)
  2. Get ready to move them bones at San Antonio's Pearl green space! Sound Cream Airstream, "an SA-based provider of al fresco dance parties, with the help of a shiny Airstream DJ booth" will hold a Sound Scream "all-in-one mobile discotheque" on Thursday, Oct. 28 from 6-9 p.m. Dance to spooky tunes and enjoy food and drinks at the free Halloween dance party, and have a "spook-tacular" time! (San Antonio Current)
  3. If you've been wanting to become healthier but don't know quite how to do it, eating vegan food may be a good way to start. The vegan scene is actually growing in San Antonio, with people eating vegan for health reasons, while others doing it "in support of the environment and animals, and still others out of curiosity about whether things like vegan fried 'chikn' can taste like the real thing." San Antonio is not the only one following this trend, though. "Nationwide, the plant-based food market grew almost twice as fast as the total U.S. retail food market in 2020, according to data from the Plant Based Foods Association." Combined with exercise, the vegan diet may help you get healthier and lose weight. To read more on vegan and for locations on places that serve vegan dishes, visit: (San Antonio Magazine)
  4. The San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA) is turning 40 and to celebrate, the museum is holding its "40 Years, 40 Stories" exhibit, showcasing "the vast 30,000-piece collection the museum has amassed since 1981." Visitors can admire works of art from a "range of cultures and countries," as well as pieces that are several thousands of years old. The exhibit, now on display, will run until Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022.
