Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- According to a report titled "Shining Cities: The Top U.S. Cities for Solar Energy," written "by the Environment Texas Research and Policy Center," San Antonio is "No. 1 in Texas and No. 5 in the nation for solar energy." The ranking designates "San Antonio a 'Solar Superstar' — which means it has 100 or more watts of solar photovoltaic capacity installed per capita." According to Rudy Garza, interim president and CEO of CPS Energy, "the (Solar Superstar) designation speaks volumes about the work we have done as a community to make San Antonio a leader in the clean energy space." Luke Metzger, executive director of Environment Texas, said, "San Antonio is setting the pace statewide when it comes to solar adoption, and the 'Solar Superstar' designation shows how much progress Texas has made in the past few years." - Athletic Brewing Co. and ARRIBA bottled michelada mix now have a canned version of "Michelada" called "Chelada Nada," which is a combination "of a tomato- and seafood-laden michelada with Athletic Brewing's beer" but without the alcohol. The new brew "will be available at "Total Wine, H-E-B and Whole Foods stores" starting Wednesday, April 27, and will cost $13.99 per six-pack. For more details please visit: (San Antonio Current)
- After a 2-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, "Taco Fest: Music Y Más" is returning to San Antonio next month, but at a new location and with "performances by South Texas musical heavyweights including Santiago Jimenez Jr., El Dusty, FEA and others." This year's event will be held at Travis Park downtown on Saturday, May 14. Besides the live music performances, the event "will feature tacos from dozens of beloved area restaurants, taquerias and food trucks plus cooking demonstrations, storytelling and an expanded children's area." Taco Fest programmer Jim Mendiola said, "San Antonio understands that tacos are more than just food, they're a way of life." He added, "The culmination of taco mastery, music and culture that exists at Taco Fest is truly something special, and we are thrilled to bring the third annual event to the heart of downtown at Travis Park." Limited general admission tickets are available now for $20, as well as VIP tickets for Taco Fest at $60, which "include access to a cantina lounge, vouchers for tacos, drink tickets and exclusive cocktails," and children under 10 are free when accompanied by a ticketed adult. Part of the proceeds from Taco Fest "will benefit SATX Inner City Development, a local nonprofit that supports the needs of Westside neighborhoods."
