- On Thursday, Aug. 11, "San Antonio Spurs' Devin Vassell" and "musicians Austin Mahone and Tay Tay Made It" will participate in a "Back-to-School Drive" from 4-7 p.m. at Kipp Camino Academy, located at 4343 West Commerce St. During the event, students from pre-K to 8th grade will receive "free backpacks filled with school supplies," as well as free haircuts. - Cincinnati-based Buzzed Bull Creamery ice cream shop will open up next month at 2903 N. Loop 1604 E. The shop which "uses liquid nitrogen to whip up its creamy, boozy creations on the spot," offering various flavors of ice cream mixed with "boozy shots" like "tequila, whiskey and bourbon." - The deadline to apply for Miss Fiesta San Antonio 2023 is Thursday, Sept. 13. "Miss Fiesta will be crowned on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, during the Fiesta Poster Unveiling Celebration at The Witte Museum," located at 3801 Broadway St. In addition to becoming "the official ambassador of Fiesta," Miss Fiesta will receive "a $5,000 scholarship." - "According to ADP Research Institute," San Antonio-New Braunfels is "the No. 2 metro area in Texas for salary growth rates." Per their report, "the area experienced a low-end salary growth of 13.54 percent between 2019 and 2021 and a top 5 percent earner salary growth of 0.53 percent during the time period." In 2021, "the median monthly earning was $6,212; the low-end median monthly earning was $1,835, and the top 5 percent median monthly earning was $20,601." - Food banks in San Antonio and New Braunfels are in desperate need of volunteers. According to Eric Cooper, Food Bank president and CEO, "inflation and supply issues have increased both the need in the community and the strain on their system." He said, "We just have shifts that take 50 people, and only 10 registers. Because of vacations and all the distractions that happen during the summer, we actually see less volunteers at a time when it's the busiest demand."
