Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:
- The San Antonio River Walk made Yelp's List of the Top 20 Places to see Christmas lights in Texas! To bring even more holiday cheer amid the COVID-19 pandemic, this year city officials turned on the River Walk's 100,000 Christmas lights early on Nov. 12, instead of on the day after Thanksgiving. For a list of other local and nearby places in Texas that made Yelp's list, please visit: (KSAT San Antonio)
- San Antonio children with disabilities and their families celebrated the Christmas season in a very unique way at the Children's Rehabilitation Institute TeletonUSA(CRIT). 'The Muscriteers,' a group of teenage volunteer ambassadors, hosted the event which featured games, dancing, a visit from Santa with gifts, and even a 'piñata.' Bernardo Medina, a CRIT volunteer, said "We came up with this idea because so often children with disabilities are excluded." He added, "We want to show the children of CRIT what inclusion looks like, and we wanted them to have a night of fun." For more information and for pictures of the event, visit: (WOAI)
- The Soldiers' Angels are looking for more veteran families to help ahead of holidays this year in San Antonio. The organization has been providing help to deployed service members and wounded veterans since 2003. "Thanks to the organizations Adopt-A-Family program, families of veterans and deployed service members will get to have their Christmas list filled." To apply for or donate to the Soldiers' Angels Adopt-A-Family program click here and for more information, visit: (KENS5.com)
- The San Antonio Humane Society is in need of winter donations for pets at the animal shelter. During last year's winter storm, the shelter experienced broken water lines and power outages, and there was limited staff available to check on the furry friends. This year they hope to be better prepared, but they need your help with items such as blankets, towels and food for the animals. The San Antonio Humane Society accepts donations daily from 12 p.m.-7 p.m. and starting Monday, Dec. 6, all pets will be available for adoption for only $25. For more information, please visit: (Spectrum News)
- The 2021 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium will be held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center from Tuesday, Dec. 7 - Friday, Dec. 10. The event, one of the largest breast cancer symposiums in the world, will include some of the best researchers and physicians who will discuss the latest approved treatments.
