Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- The San Antonio Center for Refugee Services will be holding its annual toy drive for refugee children starting Sunday, Dec. 5 through Friday, Dec. 10. The event will benefit child refugees "who have left difficult situations in other countries." Toy donations may be dropped off at Resurgent Church, located at 8134 Fredericksburg Road on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2-6 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 6 through Friday, Dec. 10, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. To see what is needed and to volunteer to help, please click here and visit: (kens5.com)
- Thunder Rosa, AEW pro wrestler from San Antonio, will host "Silver Belles" women's wrestling event on Saturday, Dec. 11 at Salvation Army on 615 Peacock Ave. Proceeds of the event will go to the San Antonio Salvation Army's Boys and Girls Club on Peacock Avenue, and portions of the ticket sales will benefit the club. A toy drive will also be held on site during the event, and Thunder Rosa will be taking donations for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign. "If you're interested in creating a team to fundraise in San Antonio online with the Red Kettle program," please fill out the Red Kettle Challenge Sign-up Form and someone will get in touch with you soon. - "Ella Enchanted: The Musical" opened on Friday, Nov. 19 at San Antonio's Magik Theatre, and runs through Friday, Dec. 24. The two-act production was "adapted by Karen Zacarías as a play from a children's book by New York Times bestselling author Gail Carson Levine." The San Antonio production features music by Deborah Wicks La Puma and is recommended for ages 5 and up. Tickets are $25 per adult and $20 for children ages 2 to 17, and can be purchased at MagikTheatre.org. Discounts are available for educators, military, students and seniors. - San Antonio's Pearl complex will soon have a place where your fur babies can play, and just in time for the holidays! Good Dog, located at 132 W. Grayson St., Ste. 150, will be opening on Wednesday, Dec. 8. The downtown-area doggie daycare will feature boarding and daycare for smaller dogs and dog walking services to pets of all sizes. The lobby will be open to guests Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Co-owner Steven Bell said, "We're really looking forward to being a part of the Pearl neighborhood and being able to serve the dogs and dog owners here." He added, "We have a wonderful space where every decision was made to create a great experience for smaller dogs — we hope the community loves it!"
