San Antonio: 2020 Census Count Ends This Friday

SAN ANTONIO - The U.S. Census Bureau announced that it will end data collection for the 2020 Census at 5 a.m. CST on Oct. 16. This decision came after the U.S. Supreme blocked a lower court decision to continue data collection through Oct. 31.

“As the census comes to an end, we ask anyone who still has not responded to the census to do so now. The census helps determine our community’s federal funding and political representation. We won’t have an opportunity to shape our future for another 10 years. Now is the time to be seen and counted,” stated Census Administrator for the City of San Antonio, Berta S. Rodriguez. “We are especially calling on our neighbors in the South, West and Central areas of Bexar County to participate.”

Currently, the San Antonio self-response rate is 65.3% and Bexar county is at 67.1%. Based on the Census Bureau’s self-response rates there are still households that may not have responded to the census. Individuals that live in the South, West, and Central Bexar County census tracts show lower than average responses to date.

The public can complete the census online at 2020census.gov or call to 844-330-2020 (English) 844-468-2020 (Spanish) to self-respond before time runs out on Friday. The website will be available across the nation until 6 a.m. EST (5 a.m. CST) on Oct. 16. Phone responses will also be available until 12 a.m. EST (11 CST) on Oct. 15. Paper forms must be postmarked by Oct. 15.
