San Antonio: Animal Care Services Ends Fiscal Year With A 92% Save Rate

SAN ANTONIO - With a live release rate that’s stayed at a constant 90% or more, San Antonio’s Animal Care Services is amongst the most successful animal shelters in the state. Animal Care’s 92% live release rate is the highest in the shelter’s history. Defined as the percentage of all pets who are adopted, rescued, transferred to another shelter or returned to their owners after being lost, the lifesaving number is reflective of the shelter’s never-ending mission to increase humane pet care in San Antonio. - Adoption of over 6,000 pets who now have a forever home.
- Partnership with rescues and sister shelters to save nearly 11,000 pets.
- Reunion of 7,300 pets with their families.
- Completion of more than 32,500 spay/neuter surgeries to help reduce stray pet population.
- Microchipping of 15,300 pets to help lost pets reunite with their families.
- Work of 1,000 plus foster parents to provide a shelter without walls during the pandemic.
- Engagement and education of 5.7 million pet lovers through our digital outreach.
- Issuance of 12,800 citations to protect pets and the community.
Animal Care Services also saw the lowest number of pets hit by cars in seven years. Out of 27,194 animals brought in to the shelter, 2,204 were euthanized.
