SAN ANTONIO (April 13, 2020) – The San Antonio Bexar County Complete Count Committee continues to encourage residents to fill out the 2020 Census questionnaire.
The U.S. Census Bureau has begun to mail paper questionnaires to all households that have not responded to the 2020 Census. In Bexar County only 46.5% of all households have responded to the census. The census population data impacts our community for the next 10 years and will be used to allocate federal funding for programs and services that are critical to our community.

“COVID-19 has changed our routines to a great degree. We are called to be more responsible in all aspects of our lives and we still have great hope for the future. Answering the 2020 Census now insures future federal funding will be ours to claim for infrastructure, education, healthcare and emergency services,” said Rebecca Cedillo, Co-Chair of the San Antonio Bexar Complete Count Committee.
In light of COVID-19 the U.S. Census Bureau has suspended its field operations which could have an impact on getting a complete count of all residents. Having residents complete the census right away and on their own reduces the need to send census takers door-to-door to collect the data.
“The Census is more important than ever. We are witnessing firsthand how our first responders and hospitals need resources, how our schools need lunches to feed children and families, and how our elderly and veterans need access to care. By taking the census now, you are helping heroes, abuelas, abuelitos, nieces, nephews, and many others that with or without a pandemic need us to do our part by being counted,” said Celina Pena, Co-Chair of the San Antonio Bexar Complete Count Committee.
Responding to the census is fast, safe and important and can be done online, by phone or by mailing back the paper questionnaire.
