San Antonio City Council Appoints Carla Obledo To Serve As New Municipal Court Presiding Judge

SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 30, 2020) – Today, the San Antonio City Council appointed San Antonio Municipal Court Associate Judge Carla Obledo as Presiding Judge. The Municipal Court Presiding Judge serves as administrative oversight for the office of the judiciary of the Municipal Court and performs the duties of that office as provided for in the Texas Government Code, other state law and as assigned by the City Council by ordinance.

“I want to thank Judge Bull for his vision and leadership during his 20 years of service to the San Antonio Municipal Court,” said newly appointed Municipal Court Presiding Judge Carla Obledo. “I’m looking forward to this new challenge and to continue serving the residents of San Antonio.”

Presiding Judge Obledo has served as a City of San Antonio Judge for more than 20 years. She brings forward experience in both magistration and municipal court operations. She has extensive knowledge of trial process, specialty courts proceedings, and administrative activities, such as animal seizure warrants, Texas Department of Public Safety hearings, and search warrants. Prior to joining the City of San Antonio, Judge Obledo worked in private practice for four years, specializing in general practice, family law, and probate and personal injury. She has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Juris Doctor from Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University. Judge Obledo has held a license with the State Bar of Texas since 1995.

Judge Obledo’s appointment is for the remainder of the unexpired two-year term of Judge John W. Bull who announced his retirement last year. He served the City as a Municipal Court Judge for 20 years, 16 of those as the Presiding Judge. The Presiding Judge is appointed by the City Council for a two-year term.
