City Council Approves Revised Alamo Plan

SAN ANTONIO (April 15, 2021) – Today, City Council voted 10-1 to approve the amended and restated ground lease and operating agreement between the City and General Land Office that incorporates and facilitates the implementation of the revised Alamo Plan.

“Looking back on this entire process, I have to say that almost all of my original concerns have been addressed with this revised conceptual plan. The Cenotaph will remain where it stands, the Historic Mission Footprint will not be lowered, the Alamo Plaza and the remainder of the Historic Mission Footprint will be open to the public with unfettered access, and the Woolworth building will remain. While there are many compromises throughout this plan that are satisfactory, I still have concerns about the surrounding street closures and look forward to the results of the upcoming traffic study. We must do everything in our power to ensure that the grounds are accessible to people of all abilities and that our surrounding businesses are not negatively impacted by this plan in any way.

Many of you have called, emailed, and attended Council meetings to address us directly, all with the same question: What is City Council going to do about the Alamo? I’m glad to finally provide an answer. Most San Antonians agree that the Shrine of Texas Liberty should be protected and enhanced for all to enjoy for years to come, and with this plan, that will happen.”
