San Antonio Councilwoman Jada Andrews-Sullivan Statement On Renaming Of Columbus Park And Removal Of Columbus Statue

SAN ANTONIO (August 13, 2020) – City Council unanimously supported the removal of the Christopher Columbus statue from Columbus Park and renaming Columbus Park to Piazza Italia Park. The following is Councilwoman Jada Andrews-Sullivan statement about today’s action:

“We are grateful to make decisions that truly speak to the heart of equity and equality. The removal of the Columbus statue is meant to speak to all residents of San Antonio. We can never erase history, but we can certainly make history read inclusively. This is the beginning of a healing process for many. We have heard the cries of our community and we stand in solidarity with you.”
