SAN ANTONIO (September 4, 2020) – After visiting the COVID-19 tracers at the Alamodome on August 7, 2020 and meeting with Dr. Anita Kurian, Councilwoman Adriana Rocha Garcia learned more about the work conducted by the COVID-19 response team. Many of these employees were furloughed near the start of this pandemic and were reassigned to perform this critical work as part of our local response efforts. In recognition of their work over the last months, District 4 delivered lunch to 200 COVID-19 tracers at the Alamodome to show their appreciation.

The Councilwoman was moved by the long hours and shifts completed by the response team. In addition to acclimating themselves to the new tasks and responsibilities of their new roles, many of them shared how emotional and strenuous the work can be, but they were grateful to still have jobs and be able to assist others. During her visit along with Councilmember Rebecca Viagran, they saw firsthand the safety measures and precautions taken to ensure all the employees at the Alamodome were following the recommended guidelines set by Metro Health.

“Since the start of this pandemic we have witnessed our community come together and answer the call of service providing support to our frontline workers,” commented Councilwoman Rocha Garcia, “Our City’s COVID-19 response staff form an integral part of our local emergency response to this pandemic and their sacrifices do not go unnoticed. I encourage our community to show our appreciation this Labor Day weekend by wearing our masks.”
