San Antonio: Drop-Off, Telephone-Based Services Offered For Income Tax Filers

IRS deadline extended to July 15 amid COVID-19 pandemic
SAN ANTONIO (April 16, 2020) – With the 2020 income tax filing deadline extended to July 15 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will continue to offer drop-off service and a new telephone-based service.
VITA tax preparation will continue to be available through telephone-based assistance service from April 16 to July 15. Telephone-based tax preparation will assist residents to meet their tax filing obligation. In addition, the service will also assist residents without a tax filing obligation to register with the Internal Revenue Service in order to be eligible for a federal stimulus payment under the 2020 CARES Act.
Drop-off assistance ended April 15 at the Willie Velasquez Center and the Neighborhood Place. Catholic Charities Guadalupe Community Center will continue to offer drop-off service through July 15.
The VITA program offers free tax preparation to San Antonio/Bexar County individuals and families who earned up to $55,000 last year.
