SAN ANTONIO (February 17, 2021) — As severe winter weather continues to affect the region, the City of San Antonio’s warming center at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center will remain open throughout the day. The City will monitor the weather conditions and status of power outages to determine whether the shelter will stay open overnight.

“The roads are treacherous, so please use extreme caution if you plan to utilize the shelter. The Convention Center will have several hundred cots and meals prepared by the San Antonio Food Bank,” said City Manager Erik Walsh. “If you are planning to spend the night with extended family, keep in mind that there is no guarantee that households that currently have power will have power through the night.”

Residents in need of transportation assistance can contact 311 for assistance.

The warming center is prepared to receive up to 500 people. Meals are being provided by the San Antonio Food Bank. Supplies are limited, anyone coming to the Convention Center should bring clothes, supplies and medicine that they will need. The roads remain dangerous and residents who choose to drive to the center should proceed with extreme caution. The public is asked to avoid driving unless travel is necessary.

As a result of the dangerous, icy conditions many City streets, Bexar County roads and some portions of TxDOT highways are closed or extremely dangerous. Road closure information can be found at this page: https://www.sanantonio.gov/PublicWorks/News-and-Media/Street-Closures
