- The San Antonio Police Department is proud to help families during the holidays through its Blue Santa Program, which gives toys to children in the San Antonio area. The program, which started in 1976, serves approximately 8,000 families each year. Applications are being taken until Friday, Dec. 3, for families with children in San Antonio and you can apply at any police substation Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Applicants will need a valid ID with current address, a CPS/SAWS bill for proof of residence, and a copy of each child's birth certificate. - The annual Yanaguana Indian Arts Festival will be held Saturday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Briscoe Western Art Museum, located at 210 W. Market St. The free event will showcase Native American traditions and arts and will feature "storytelling, artist demos, workshops, lectures, drum circles, music, pottery, weaving, carving and a sampling of Native American-inspired food." Briscoe president and CEO Michael Duchemin said, "The Yanaguana Indian Arts Festival offers the opportunity to see, interact and celebrate with Native American artists and performers. The performances and art tell a story that's compelling for all ages, making the event a true family affair." For more details, visit: (San Antonio Current)
- If you're in a mood for a good read, San Antonio Public Library's "Miep and the Most Famous Diary" by Meeg Pincus may be a good choice. Miep Gies, a friend of Anne Frank's, helped hide Anne and her family but when the family was discovered, Miep managed to save Anne's diary and kept it locked up with hopes to return it. When she learned of Anne's death, she gave it to the only survivor, Anne's father Otto, who in turn gave it to the world to be published as "The Diary of Anne Frank." Meeg Pincus met Miep Gies, who died at the age of 100, and wrote the book "as a way to honor the woman who worked so hard to help Anne's family and to preserve their story." (Press Release Desk)
