1928
The Uptown Theater at West Ashby and Fredericksburg Road holds its grand opening. The new theater is owned and operated by the Victor Theater Company, which has been operating in San Antonio nearly a year. One of the features of the new theater is the offering of a family ticket, which will admit a whole family at nominal cost.

1950
The San Antonio Express reports that, on Sept. 15, the Witte Museum’s famed reptile garden will become an alligator garden. Commissioner Henry Hein said he believes there should only one reptile display in Brackenridge Park and it would be at the zoo. Hein added, “Besides, it’s becoming pretty hard to get snakes.”

1955
World War II war hero Audie Murphy is in San Antonio for the world premiere of his autobiographical movie, “To Hell and Back,” at the Majestic today.
