The Spanish royalist army under Gen. Joaquín de Arredondo is victorious at the Battle of Medina south of San Antonio.

1918
The new San Antonio Evening News newspaper (“a paper with a conscience and backbone“) is advertised in the San Antonio Express. Publication begins on September 4.

1994
City Council finally killed the long controversial plan for Applewhite Reservoir today. They unanimously voted in favor of an ordinance abandoning the project and for terminating state permits for the reservoir, which failed by a 10,000 vote margin in a city-referendum six days ago.
