Restoration on La Villita is begun with O’Neil Ford as architect.

City Council endorses plans to apply for $1.5 million from the federal government to set up a new public ambulance program. The community-wide emergency medical treatment system would use specially-trained firemen to provide ambulance care. Dr. Jack Williamson, says that about 300 deaths in the county last year would have been prevented with a first-rate emergency medical system in effect.

1980
Country-western group Alabama makes their first appearance in San Antonio at the Majestic Theater. Despite having a #1 song with “Tennessee River,” San Antonians evidently had not heard much about them because the crowd was estimated at between 100 and 200 people.
