After learning that the need for food in Galveston was greater than first indicated, William Richter, owner of the bakery on South Laredo street, baked and shipped 300 pounds of bread at his own expense.
1977
Gary Green, recent #1 draft pick of the Kansas City Chiefs, returns an interception 81 yards, blocks an extra point try, blocks a field goal and deflects a sure touchdown pass at the last second as the Chiefs defeat the St. Louis Cardinals in a preseason game. Green was a football star at San Antonio’s Southwest High School.
