The first city election takes place (19 votes cast for Mayor: 15 for John W. Smith, 2 for Antonio Navarro, 1 for Francisco Ruiz and 1 for J. Croco).

1917
Instead of Camp Funston, Army officers will now train at the newly named Camp Stanley, renamed for Gen. David Stanley, former commander of Ft. Sam Houston.

1977
After spotting shoplifters stealing meat from an Austin Highway HEB grocery store, 21-year old security guard, Gloriana Reyes, jumps in the back of the thieves pickup just before they take off “at a high rate of speed.” She manages to throw all the meat out of the truck and when they stop the truck to try to force her out, she beats them with a tire iron. She manages to hang on for another wild ride, finally jumping out when the truck stops for a red light.
