Learn everything new around town with the San Antonio Daily.

Hello, people of San Antonio! It's me again, Gabriela Couvillion, your host of the San Antonio Daily.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny. High: 89 Low: 61.

Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:

  1. Today is National Taco Day! To celebrate, several San Antonio eateries are offering some great taco deals, including free tacos, $1 tacos, and BOGO taco deals! Among the restaurants where you can get your tasty taco treats are Taco Cabana, Taco Bell and Torchy's Tacos. Visit the KSAT.com article for more places and details to get your breakfast tacos, your lunch tacos, and your dinner tacos! Happy Taco Day! (KSAT.com)
  2. Retired Air Force Colonel, Janet Deltuva, and her friend Jacquelyn Flanders are both pet lovers. They are also creators of the book "Tails Of The Alamo City," which supports military dogs, with proceeds going towards the U.S. War Dog Association and the Mal-FFunctions Rescue. "The special book showcases pet-friendly sites and landmarks in San Antonio" and "lists alternatives for visitors whose pets may not be allowed at certain locations." It features military working dogs and regular pets and highlights the US war dogs." Pet lovers and military families alike will enjoy reading this book honoring military k-9 heroes and man's best friend. (KENS5.com)
  3. San Antonio artist, Eva Marengo Sanchez, "is known for her hyper-real depictions of culturally and personally relevant food items." From "sugary conchas to salsa verde to oil paint," her art is truly a feast for the eyes! One of her most viewed pieces is a large mural along St. Mary's Strip that she completed in 2019 as part of the San Antonio Street Art Initiative. Titled "The Morning After-Plan A," it depicts breakfast tacos wrapped in foil, along with coffee, salsa and all the trimmings. Writer Camille Sauers interviewed Sanchez for the article, and while the artist shared her experiences and how she got started in her career, they dined on delicious tacos from Taqueria Chapala Jalisco Restaurant. Her work is currently at "The Art at SA Eats" exhibit at the McNay Art Museum, along with the works of 4 other artists. "You can catch the show from now until January 23, 2022," just don't go hungry, or at least pick up some tacos before you go! (mySA)
  4. "Vaqueros De La Cruz Del Diablo," Spanish for "Cowboys Of The Devil's Cross," is an exhibit of "Contemporary Photography of the Northern Mexican Cowboy." Photographer Werner Segarra invites you to view 20 years worth of images of the Northern Vaqueros from Sonora, Mexico, depicting their everyday life. Visitors will see "realistic moments of how they view themselves, surrounded by the tools of their trade, intertwined with the realities of their existence – family, religion, tradition, culture, work, and animals – reflecting a legacy that reaches back over generations and is the birthplace of the modern Cowboy." Experience the Vaquero's stories visually now through Jan. 24, 2022, at the Briscoe Western Art Museum on the San Antonio Riverwalk, located at 210 W. Market Street. (Briscoe Museum)
  5. San Antonio Adam Martinez is not only a TikToker, but he is also a model for Target's new Latinx collection. Better known as "Rosa" on TikTok, he's now "doing more for Latinos than just bring our lovable, comedic antics to one of the biggest social media platforms. Now, he's modeling products made by Latinos that also represent the culture." In collaboration with Target, he acknowledged Hispanic Heritage Month by donning a t-shirt with the inscription "Si Se Puede," which is Spanish for "Yes We Can." Martinez shared photos of himself wearing the t-shirt on his TikTok channel and proudly posted, "I love that I can represent my culture, my background, my roots and feel SEEN." (mySA)
