Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:

  1. Maria Aldape came to the U.S. from Mexico when she was only 17 years old. Now at 69, she loves reminiscing on family memories through photos and homemade family recipes and although she doesn't speak English very well, her food speaks for itself. During the holidays, she always makes tamales, and she makes sure to make lots of them to share with her "familia" (family.) Her daughter Mayra Aldape said, "She does everything. It tastes so good to our family, our friends. They just love the way she cooks." Before she passes, Maria Aldape "wants to prepare a ton of hot meals for the homeless." She said, "God sees the work of charity that you are doing, and it's nice to give to the people who need it." (Spectrum News)
  2. The "Get Connected" Program is a new program in San Antonio which provides "laptops and digital literacy classes to those in need," as well as "food and job programs." The free program "is a partnership between the San Antonio Food Bank, the San Antonio Public Library, and Google Fiber" and it is offered in English and Spanish. The goal "is to help people sign up for affordable broadband and connect to services they need like food, job training, and housing services." If you're able to help, "the Food Bank is asking people to donate laptops in good condition, with chargers, no older than 4 years." For more details, visit: (KENS5.com)
  3. If you love movies, there are many films to choose from this holiday season and "if you start now, you can probably get through all of them just before it's time to open gifts Christmas morning." So put on your Christmas pajamas and open up that holiday popcorn tin and check out "capsule reviews of eight new features that will hit theaters or streaming services between Dec. 17-29" by visiting here: (San Antonio Current)
  4. "Buñuelos" and "Champurrado" and Mexican hot chocolate, oh my! If you can't visit "Abuelita's" home this year to enjoy her homemade holiday treats, the next best place to get them is at several spots in San Antonio, so prepare your taste buds and feast your eyes on this list of venues with pictures of delicious holiday desserts: (San Antonio Current)
