- The San Antonio Independent School District Board named Dr. Robert Jaklich as interim superintendent. Christina Martinez, SAISD board president, stated that they're "confident the district will continue to thrive under his leadership as the board plans to launch a search for a permanent replacement." Current SAISD Superintendent Pedro Martinez will be leaving to become the new CEO for Chicago Public Schools. (Subscription: San Antonio Express-News)
- Familiar smiles light up the streets of Manhattan! Five San Antonio kids were chosen to represent Texas in Times Square for Down syndrome advocacy. One of those smiles belongs to 8-year-old Audrey Diaz, whose video was featured by the National Down Syndrome Society. Her mother, Magaly Diaz, isn't "sure if Audrey understands the magnitude of the bustling destination since she's never seen the action in person," but she sees the pictures and videos and reacts with excitement, and San Antonio is smiling right along with her.
