Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:
- Verna Mae "Mama" Boone dedicated her life to helping the homeless and the poor, especially during the holidays, but in 2009 she passed away. Now her son, Rev. James Robinson, is continuing his late mother's legacy through a Thanksgiving turkey giveaway that will provide 300 turkeys, 200 pies, 600 loaves of bread and 500 boxes of stuffing mix to families in need. Rev. Robinson of Gospel Vision Music Ministry said, "Even before the pandemic, there was a need." He added, "And now... there's definitely a need, and I'm just trying to be a blessing." The giveaway will be on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 1211 W. Hein Road starting at 10 a.m., but people can start lining up at 6 a.m. (San Antonio Current)
- Barbie's merch truck rolls back to San Antonio again this year, making a stop at The Shops at La Cantera, just in time for the holidays! The Barbie Truck Malibu Tour truck, featuring 1970s Barbie themes, will have items for sale such as "denim jackets, T-shirts, bucket hats, coffee mugs and hoodies washed in a retro aesthetic. Stock up on official Mattel accessories and apparel" on Saturday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. The truck will be parked near Barnes and Noble and Kona Grill, at The Shops at La Cantera. - San Antonio's Hotel Emma at The Pearl was named one of the most romantic getaways in Texas, according to Condé Nast Traveler. The magazine released its list on Thursday, Nov. 11 "naming Hotel Emma in its article," as well as other "gem spots like the Hotel Drover in Fort Worth, The Bloomhouse Airbnb in Austin, The Carr Mansion in Galveston, and more." Hotel Emma, which opened in fall 2015, has 146 rooms and includes a bar, a restaurant and a library.
