Hey, neighbors! Gabriela Couvillion here with today's edition of the San Antonio Daily.
First, today's weather:
Sunny, breezy and pleasant. High: 79 Low: 45.
Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- The Texas River Company is making waves in San Antonio, and it's beautiful! Tiny Jazz musicians, John Spears and Billy Ray Sheppard, don their tuxedo jackets with lifejackets on top, and perform jazz concerts while riding in kayaks. While Spears plays the trumpet and Sheppard plays the alto saxophone, Texas River Company associate Erik Reynolds ties "a rope to their kayaks to pull them along" and does the actual kayaking. "Every weekend, the outdoor business sets up camp at Roosevelt Park" and offers kayak experiences, such as "a one-hour-long round trip to the Blue Star Arts Complex or a two-hour trip to Mission Concepcion." - Día de Los Muertos altars may be a Mexican tradition, but according to one San Antonio artist, "anyone can adopt the beautiful concept for their family and friends who've died." Hector Garza has been creating altars for others for the past 40 years, but when his mother passed away recently, he created a personal altar in her honor. He said it "helped him heal and deal with the heartbreak of losing someone so close" and feels it's "a way for one's grief to transform into something beautiful." His altar will be on display at the Altares y Ofrendas Día de Los Muertos exhibit on Nov. 2-5. For more information, visit: (Laredo Morning Times)
- San Antonio's newest music venue found under a local bridge on the South Side "is becoming the talk of the music community!" Justin Parr, co-founder of the Echo Bridge Appreciation Society, and co-founder Jeff Wheeler discovered the unique echo sound under the bridge and decided to share it with the community. Now it's a "one-of-a-kind concert venue" that offers a unique "listening room experience." Learn more about the Echo Bridge Appreciation Society and their upcoming concerts on their Instagram page @echobridgeappreciationsociety and visit: (WOAI)
- Neotropica will celebrate its grand opening at the San Antonio Zoo on Friday, Oct. 29 at 9 a.m. The new realm which focuses "on the Neotropical regions of the Americas" is a replica of "a remote South American fishing village" and houses jaguars, monkeys, birds, reptiles, fish and other mammals. It features the Pantera Walk, "a catwalk for the zoo's jaguars to roam between two habitats, moving above zoo visitors and through the Amazonian Aviary." For more information, including ticket information, visit: (San Antonio Current)
- The Idles and Gustaf show at San Antonio's Paper Tiger was a sold-out show and fans had a rocking good time listening to the "noisy and critically acclaimed British rock band." The band delighted the crowd on Wednesday night with "onstage energy, quirky fashion," and a wild time! If you missed the concert, check out the slideshow here: (San Antonio Current)
