Tracing Results For Coronavirus-Positive Officer Determined Potential Exposures To Be Low Or Negligible Risk To The Public

SAN ANTONIO (April 2, 2020) — San Antonio Metro Health’s contact tracing investigation of the first SAPD Officer who tested positive for COVID-19 found that 39 residents had contact with the officer resulting in low to negligible risk of exposure. These residents came in contact with the officer as a result of a traffic stop or traffic accident that he handled.

Metro Health sent a letter to these individuals today (see attached) explaining that because of the community transmission of the novel coronavirus, everyone going out in public is at low risk for exposure to COVID-19. This is why social distancing is critical at this phase in the pandemic and why the general public is asked to Stay Home, Work Safe through April 9.

Additionally, SAPD has three officers in self quarantine as a result of direct contact with the officer. To date, none of those officers has shown symptoms of COVID-19.
