Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- Now that Christmas is over, it's time to get rid of that real Christmas tree! To do it "in an eco-friendly way, try recycling it" at any of the 5 San Antonio locations where it can be turned into mulch. If you'd like to take the final mulch product for your garden, Bitters Brush Recycling Center will have free mulch available "two weeks after Christmas, according to the Solid Waste Management Department." Before you drop off your tree for recycling, make sure to "remove all lights, decorations and stands" and "do not bag the tree. Also, if it is over six feet tall, the tree "should be cut in half" before you drop it off. For more information and for a list of tree drop-off locations, visit: (KENS5.com)
- New Year's is right around the corner, so the San Antonio Fire Department wants to remind you "about the dangers and legal ramifications of setting off fireworks." It is illegal to set off your own fireworks within the city limits and if you are caught doing it, you risk being "charged with a Class C Misdemeanor" and being fined up to $2,000. So "if you want to ring in the new year with fireworks," plan "to visit one of the professional displays taking place throughout the city." Happy New Year! (550 KTSA)
- There's still time to vote for the BroadwayWorld San Antonio Awards, "the largest theatre audience awards, with over 100 cities worldwide participating." You need to hurry up, though, as the deadline to vote is this Friday, Dec. 31! "Streaming productions are eligible this year in the categories designated as such" and "this year BroadwayWorld is also allowing audiences to vote on which theatres they are most excited to return to, and which productions they are most excited to see." Make sure to vote for "your favorite theatres, stars, and shows get the recognition they deserve!" For a list of "the current standings for San Antonio," visit: (Broadway World)
