The latest from San Antonio, delivered right to your inbox — for free!

Good morning, people of San Antonio! It's me again, Gabriela Couvillion, your host of the San Antonio Daily.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and nice. High: 78 Low: 55.

Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:

  1. Thanksgiving is a day to give thanks along with family and friends, but if you're looking for a special way to show your gratitude, consider participating in the Thanksgiving Food Drive For Veterans on Saturday, Nov. 20 at VFW Post 76, located at 10 10th Street. The San Antonio community is invited to volunteer or donate food items and/or monetary donations for our veterans. Last year 65 veterans and their families were provided with food for their Thanksgiving tables, and this year this charitable event hopes to "provide 400 veterans, and veteran families with meals for Thanksgiving." Please share this information with everyone so that our veteran families will have a great Thanksgiving! (210area.com)
  2. The San Antonio Hemisfair shone bright on Saturday night, as the Diwali Festival of Lights made a dazzling return to the Alamo City, after celebrating virtually in 2020. "Hosted by Anuja SA Inc., a non-profit organization created to promote the Sister-City alliance between San Antonio and Chennai, India," the Hindu festival celebrated "triumph of good over evil, light over darkness" and "knowledge over ignorance." The event featured a parade, henna artists, performances from cultural groups and "a diya processional, where attendees dropped light floating candles into the fountains at the Tower of the America." 3. This past Saturday, "a tall, lanky man on a bike" joined a group of outdoor enthusiasts at "a ribbon cutting ceremony commemorating the opening of the Howard W. Peak Greenway Trail." The crowd was pleasantly surprised when Manu Ginobili, former San Antonio Spurs player, "rode up in the middle of the festivities." The event celebrated the linking of 86 miles of trails, and "marked the completion of an important reach of the 86-mile system, the section where the east-side Salado Creek trail was finally directly linked to the Leon Creek trail, which traverses west San Antonio." 4. The local photography community will have a safe space to "grow, create and connect" at The Photography Center of San Antonio, which plans to open Friday, Dec. 3. Owned by Shannon Gowen and Scott Ball, the center "will offer rentable studio opportunities, editing labs, and activations like artists talks and photo walks." The center will be open to all, but if you become a member, you "will have access to perks like a small digital lab for photo-editing, and discounts on workshops." Memberships start at $5 a month for students and $30 per month for professional photographers. For more details, visit: (Laredo Morning Times)
