Hello, San Antonio. I'm here in your inbox this warm morning to tell you everything you need to know about what's going on around town.
First, today's weather:
Mostly sunny and very warm. High: 102 Low: 75.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in San Antonio who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our San Antonio Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- On Friday, Aug. 26, Florida-based Le Petite Fete invites the San Antonio community to "a Taylor Swift dance party" from 8-11:45 p.m. at Vibes Event Center, located at 1211 E. Houston St. The event is part of the company's "Cruel Summer tour, named after a Swift hit song." Guests 18 and over will be able to enjoy "a full range of music from the country-pop icon's many albums, themed trivia games, a costume contest, lip-sync, and a swoon-worthy photo booth." Purchase your tickets on the company's website and visit: (KSAT San Antonio)
- Watermelon is just right for summer, but mix it with chicken wings, and it's the perfect "summer treat you didn't know you needed!" This year, San Antonio's "Deep River Specialty Foods brought home two International Flavor Awards, including one for its Watermelon Grilling Sauce. "Although it's not a "typical" meat marinade, co-founder Cheri White said, "It's actually quite versatile and can be used for everything from wings to ribs or even as part of a vinaigrette for salad." To see the recipe, please visit: (San Antonio Magazine)
- Pediatric patients from the Children's Hospital recently experienced "a night full of dreams" during a virtual "Dream Night at San Antonio Zoo" event. Zoo officials "brought the experience of going to the zoo right in the children's rooms using a virtual field trip that was full of fun facts and a behind-the-scenes look at the local attraction." Tim Morrow, president and CEO of the San Antonio Zoo, said, "Before the pandemic, we had the privilege of hosting this incredible experience, free of large crowds for these children and their families to enjoy and create lifelong memories." He added, "While we miss seeing the wonder and excitement in-person, we were happy to bring our love for animals and the places they live directly to these children and their families at the Children's Hospital of San Antonio." - "One way to beat" the summer heat is by eating ice cream, but "you have to eat it fast" before it melts. To make things easier, "Blue Bell invented the pink koozies to help your ice cream stay cold," and it seems that they came in handy because they sold out fast! However, Blue Bell officials said that "there will be many more on the way later this month," but if you just can't wait, you can buy one now "by CLICKING HERE." Enjoy and happy summer! (FOX 29)
- After three years, the annual "UnidosUS Annual Conference" is taking place in-person again from July 9-11 at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk Hotel, located at 600 E. Market St. During the event, "Latino advocates, community, and business leaders" gather to "support local Hispanic-owned small businesses." This year's conference will feature "15 workshops, four plenary sessions, networking opportunities, nightly receptions, a gala celebrating Latino leaders, and a MerXado." Are you a San Antonio resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2 percent when inflation is >3 percent
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164 percent (1995-2021)
