  1. If you're looking for a unique way to celebrate the holidays, David Gonzalez, VP of Media Relations and Communications with Visit San Antonio, shares with you "all the festive family-friendly fun you can have just down the road!" San Antonio's La Gran Tamalada makes a comeback with a hybrid model on Dec. 11-12, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. After "the COVID-19 pandemic forced the annual tamale-centric fest to go digital in 2020," the event will now "cater to both virtual and in-person crowds." Virtual events will feature videos from Dr. Ellen Clark, founder of La Gran Tamalada, who will talk about making tamales. During the live events, tamales, tamale kits and holiday gifts will be sold, and vendors will have hot chocolate and 'buñuelos' for sale at the Historic Market Square. There will also be live Tejano entertainment, a reading of the children's book Camilla La Magica Makes Tamales and faux snow," and a themed skit by Guadalupe Cultural Arts performers. The James Beard Foundation, "a New York City-based nonprofit named in honor of prolific food writer, teacher and cookbook author James Beard," will host the Taste America dinner on Sunday, Dec. 12 at Dashi, located on 2895 Thousand Oaks Drive. The dinner event will start at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails, followed by a seated dinner at 7 p.m. showcasing the food of top San Antonio chefs Kristina Zhao, Jian Li and Johnny Hernandez. The fancy dinner, which benefits the James Beard Foundation's Open for Good campaign, "will feature a multi-course meal from the chefs as well as beverage pairings provided by Rabbit Hole Distillery, White Claw Hard Seltzer and William Chris Vineyards."
