Area Office Depot Workers Beautifying South Austin School Grounds

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — More than 200 Austin-area Office Depot employees, their friends and family members are descending at a South Austin school Saturday morning to beautify the campus grounds.

Paredes Middle School at 10100 S. Mary Moore Searight Dr. will be the beneficiary of the cleaning initiative starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 5. The effort is in partnership with Keep Austin Beautiful, a nonprofit service organization established by the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce in 1985 to preserve the city's quality of life. Saturday's large-scale volunteer event will include gardening, mulching, picking up trash and other tasks to revitalize the campus grounds, organizers explained.

Mayor Steve Adler is expected to drop by to help celebrate the beautification effort, officials said.

The initiative is part of a recently launched associate-driven philanthropy and volunteer program by Office Depot Inc. Dubbed "Depot Days of Service," the effort aims to support the communities served by the retailer, through philanthropic giving and employee volunteerism, company officials said.

The altruism isn't limited to Austin, either. From April 28 through May 5, Office Depot associates in eight markets across North America have rolled up their sleeves to complete large-scale service projects in their local communities to make a lasting impact, according to company officials.

"The Depot Days of Service program will expand company-wide next year so that all associates can have the opportunity to engage directly with their local communities and establish stronger and further-reaching relationships in the future," company officials said in a prepared statement.
