Austin Police Seek Public's Help Identifying, Finding Bank Robber

The man walked into a Wells Fargo bank branch with a shirt over his head, walking away with an undetermined amount of cash.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX -- Police are asking members of the public for help in identifying a suspect in a Wednesday afternoon bank robbery.

According to an Austin Police Department news advisory, a man entered the Wells Fargo bank branch at 501 S. Congress Ave. at 4:23 p.m. and demanded money from a teller. The man then left with an undetermined amount of cash.

Police said no weapon was brandished, and no injuries were reported during the heist.

The suspect is described as a black male in his late 20s. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a white or gray t-shirt, red hat and black-and-white checked shirt that he placed over his head. Still images from a surveillance camera were released in the hopes someone might recognize him and call the police.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Robbery tip line at (512) 974-5092, Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-TIPS or text “Tip 103” + your message to CRIMES. Tips also can be sent to police via the APD's mobile app, Austin PD, which can be downloaded for free on iPhone and Android.

Those contacting police with information leading to an arrest or charges being filed are eligible for a $1,000 cash reward, police said.

Police noted the incident represented Austin's 12th bank robbery so far this year.
