Austin Police Seek Suspect In Fatal Shooting

Matthew Aguirre, 22, was mortally wounded on March 16 along 2200 block of S. 5th St. last Friday and police now seek suspect.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX ― Police seek those responsible for the shooting death of a man last Friday.

The incident dates to March 16 when police arrived at the 2200 block of S. 5th St. at around 5:30 a.m. amid reports of numerous shots having been fired. Upon their arrival, police heard people screaming as they surrounded Matthew Aguirre, 22, who was on the street with obvious trauma to his body.

The shooting victim was rushed to St. David's South Austin Medical Center, where he succumbed to his wounds just after 6 a.m. An autopsy was performed on March 17, officials said.

Police now are searching for a white car, possibly a Honda with paper plates, according to a press advisory. An African-American man was driving the vehicle and up to two women may have been in the vehicle with the driver. "There is concern the occupants could have been struck by gunfire," police said.
