Bicyclist Dies After Colliding With Truck

Male victim was in his 50s.

A bicyclist was killed in an early Tuesday morning collision with a vehicle just south of Slaughter Lane.

Austin-Travis County EMS officials said the victim was a middle-aged man in his 50s who died at the scene despite efforts to save him with CPR. Medical personnel responded to the scene at around 6:30 a.m. in the 10200 block of Brodie Lane, two blocks south of where the Brodie and Slaughter lanes intersect.

The scene of the fatal accident is near James Bowie High School in the southwest part of the city.

Austin police told media outlets the bicyclist collided with a truck on the roadway, which has bike lanes on both sides of the road. The driver of the truck remained on the scene until first responders arrived.

Brodie was closed off at Graybuck Drive while emergency personnel cleared the scene. Austin-Travis County EMS officials urged motorists to avoid the area for the time being.
