Body Found At Site Of South Austin Brush Fire

The grim discovery was made just before 6:15 p.m. in what began as fire department's aid in traffic collision when smoke was spotted nearby.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TEXAS β€” Police on Sunday evening were investigating the scene of a dead body in South Austin where a brush fire had erupted.

The discovery was made along the 7600 block of the South Interstate 35 service road northbound just before 6:15 p.m., a police spokesman told reporters. Austin fire officials had been dispatched to aid in a traffic collision when they observed smoke in a nearby wooded area, the officer said. Firefighters then headed to the burning site to put out the flames, discovering the body of a dead man in its midst.

No further details were made available pending the outcome of the investigation.
