City to Conduct Prescribed Burn in South Austin

The 45-acre fire will mimic the natural fire cycle.

SOUTH AUSTIN - TX: If you see about 45 acres of land in South Austin on fire Wednesday, don’t be alarmed.

The Austin Water’s Wildland Conservation will be controlling the scheduled blaze, which is being conducted on Water Quality Protection Lands to mimic the natural fire cycle.

Smoke will be visible west of Brodie Lane, east of Mopac, northwest of State Highway 45, and south of Slaughter Lane from noon until sunset, according to the city website.

Teams will be monitoring the fire to ensure that conditions do not become unsafe. In the case that city officials believe the fire will not be easily controlled, the burn will be rescheduled.
