Construction Worker Crushed To Death By Concrete Slab In South Austin
Slab weighing tens of thousands of pound fell on man who died after efforts to extricate him from the rubble.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX β A construction worker was crushed to death Wednesday after a concrete slab weighing up to 40,000 pounds fell on him at a South Austin apartment complex construction site.
Austin-Travis County EMS medics responded to the scene just after 9 a.m. after emergency calls were made about the victim trapped under the slab at Wickersham Lane and Cromwell Circle. Firefighters soon joined in rescue efforts that ultimately proved futile as the victim was pronounced dead just after 10 a.m.
Emergency workers were never able to extricate the man, changing their mission from rescue to once centered on recovery of his remains, according to fire department officials.
