Eight People Displaced In Two Separate Fires, Including One In South Austin

AUSTIN, TX — Eight people were displaced after two separate structure fires on Sunday, both sparked by electrical shortages, Austin Fire Department officials said.

The first fire occurred at around 4:30 p.m. at an apartment complex located in the 2100 block of Elmont Drive in East Austin. The fire was determined to have been sparked by an electrical shortage in the unit's air conditioning system, resulting in the displacement of five residents after three units suffered extensive water and smoke damage.

Later that evening in South Austin, a home in the 400 block of Treys Way also caught fire after an electrical short in the air conditioning. The fire reached the attic area before fire crews were able to extinguish it, officials said. Three people were displaced ass a result of that blaze.
