Elderly Motorist Dies After Hitting Tree In South Austin
Man in his 70s pronounced dead at the scene along 9100 block of Towana Trail after driving into tree at around 10:30 a.m. Monday.

AUSTIN, TX — It was in the rough jargon of emergency workers' parlance that the death of an elderly man in the city's latest traffic fatality was disclosed Monday morning.
A man in his 70s was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, pinned inside his vehicle and an "immovable object" at around 10:30 a.m., Austin-Travis County EMS tweeted. The wreck occurred along the 9100 block of Towana Trail, located within a South Austin neighborhood dubbed Oak Hill just north of U.S. 290 near Circle Drive. Texas Department of Public Safety officials later confirmed he had slammed into a tree.
Jargon aside, the point is that the unidentified man in his 70s lost his life on a day when roads were packed as people traveled back and forth for recreation, leisurely shopping or visiting with family members or friends on Presidents Day for which many were given time off from work. On a day meant to celebrate, the elderly motorist instead saw his last day alive, and declared dead at the scene.
