Fiery Multi-Car South Austin Crash Sends Six To Hospital

Three of the injured were children in a wreck that occurred along 4700 block of I-35 South between Texas 71 and Stassney Lane.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX —A fiery multi-vehicle crash along Interstate 35 in South Austin Friday afternoon resulted in the hospitalization of six people, including three children.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics responded to the 4700 block of I-35 South between Texas 71 and Stassney Lane where the impact of the wreck caused one of the vehicles involved to catch fire. Six people were injured as a result of the early afternoon wreck, medics said.

Three children were rushed to Dell Children's Medical Center, including a girl with serious injuries and two boys with potentially serious injuries, medics said. In addition, two women were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries to Dell Seton Medical Center and St. David's South Austin Medical Center, medics reported via Twitter.

As a result of the crash, traffic was diverted to the frontage road near St. Elmo Road after three of the southbound lanes at the Ben White Boulevard interchange were closed.
